Extreme E Championship is a new international racing series. In these off-road races in remote parts of the planet such as the cold Arctic or the Amazon tropics, specially prepared electric off-road vehicles are used. All locations where races are held are selected specifically to stir up public interest in a number of aspects of climate change on planet Earth. Extreme E is actively promoting the "Heritage Program" aimed at providing environmental and social assistance to selected places. The 2022 Extreme E Championship is the second-ever season of the electric SUV racing series.

The Extreme E Championship series promotes gender equality in motorsport. One of the requirements of the regulations is that all crew teams without exception must include both male and female riders. Both must perform the same duties.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, the organizers of the competition reserve the right to make adjustments to the dates of the stages, the schedule and the routes (route). That is, the 2022 Extreme E Championship racing calendar schedule may change during the season.
