Spark Gen3, the debut car of the 9th season, is built by the manufacturer Spark Racing Technology, like the previous model.
- The third generation of Formula E cars are lighter, smaller and have a shorter wheelbase.
- Peak power increased up to 470 hp (350 kW).
- The maximum regenerated power is increased up to 600 kW thanks to motor generators (350 kW for the rear and 250 kW for the front axles).
- It will be possible to recharge the battery (40 kW in a 30-second period of time - a new race mode).
- Rear hydraulic brakes cancelled.
- The design of the car approached openwheels due to the abolition of wheel arches in the design.
- Williams Advanced Engineering became the sole battery supplier. According to the designer, the new power source will receive less capacity and weight.
- South Korean company Hankook will replace Michellin as a rubber supplier.
Sports regulations
- The fixed time race limit has been removed. Instead, certain stages will be assigned a certain number of laps (the number will be announced in advance).
- In the event of an FCY announcement or a pace car appearance, till the race, additional laps will be added to the total number.
- Special race mode “Attack Charge” introduced for the several stages. The meaning is that pilots must visit pit stops for a mandatory 30-sec. recharging of the car battery. Immediately after leaving the pit lane, driver will be able to use the "Attack Mode".
- The qualifying power of the power plant will be 350 kW, against 300 kW in race mode.
- FanBoost cancelled.
- Groups A and B pilots will no longer overlap in qualifying before the "combat" race.
- Each racing team is obliged to provide drivers which have not previously participated in Formula E with two training sessions throughout the whole season.
